WEEK 5: GRANDI ROSSI E BOLLICINE
Now that you're feeling a bit more comfortable with the world of Italian wine, allow us to introduce you to a few benchmark
rossi and
bollicine, or reds and sparkling wines. If you’re like us, you’ve been reaching for glass after glass of chilled
vino during the summer heatwave. The wine shop has put together a curated list of our
must-try reds and sparkling bottles – whether lightly
frizzante or brightly
spumante, Italy’s effervescent wines are a perfect way to cool down and cheer up this summer, while a silky glass of
vino rosso makes a perfect pairing for summer nights at the grill. From the fine perlage of Corte Aura Franciacorta to the full-bodied Marchesi Migliorato Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, get it with your takeout order or for
delivery through Uber Eats, DoorDash, or SkipTheDishes to stock your bar cart.
Ferrari Trento DOC Perle'
A true pioneer, Giulio Ferrari dreamed of creating a sparkling wine that could compete with the best – and his hunch that the terroir of Trentino would make for a fine sparkling wine paid off. To date, the Ferrari vineyard remains the largest zone planted with Chardonnay in Italy. The best Chardonnay from the family’s vineyards is used to make this vintage Trentodoc, it is made with 100% Chardonnay grapes, and boasts a lively, straw yellow color, a fresh and fruity nose, and a harmonious, well-balanced palate.
Marchesi Migliorati Montepulciano d'Abruzzo
Since the 1300s in Abruzzo, the Marquis Migliorati have grown rows of vines amongst the olive trees of their ancient property. The Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC of the Poderi Marchesi Migliorati is an organic red wine, the result of an ancient tradition that has been handed down for centuries, and is loaded with dark fruits, dark currants, blackberry and wild cherry, while having dried fruits such as plum on the palate.
Corte Aura Franciacorta Saten NV
Corteaura Franciacorta was established in 2009 by Federico Fossati. Raised in Veneto, he wanted to fulfill an oenological dream: to produce a top quality wine in a territory with a natural vocation for grape growing. After meticulous research across all wine producing areas of Italy, he recognised the Franciacorta region as the one that, above all others, would ensure his wines would have a rich and varied range of undertones. Made with 100% Chardonnay grapes from various areas of Franciacorta, this bollicine has a straw yellow colour and silky, bright, light bubbles with fresh acidity and great depth.
