Leap Day at Eataly Toronto
Every four years, we get an extra day to indulge in Italian food and drink. The best way to take advantage of an extra day in the year? Carpe (Leap) Diem – seize the Leap Day on Saturday, February 29 at Eataly Toronto!
Did you know that Leap Year was invented by Julius Caesar? The ancient Roman calendar was based on a total of 355 days – a full 10 ¼ days shorter than a solar year. Before the time of Caesar, Roman officials dealt with this by inserting an additional month into the calendar every so often – not exactly an exact way of tracking time! By the time Julius Caesar came to power in 45 B.C., the Romans had accumulated an extra three months through the years. After consulting with his top astronomers, Caesar decided to add an extra day every four years to balance out the off-kilter calendar – giving us one extra day to indulge just as the Romans did!
To celebrate some of Italy's greatest inventions, seize the day and enjoy a variety of specials throughout the marketplace as part of our Leap Day celebration. As the Romans say, tempus fugit (time flies)...so don't miss out on this one-day event on Saturday, February 29!
